Luckily, we can forgo this three-act drama by using brain scans. Brain scans provide us not only with objective measures, but also reveal unconscious processes leading to buying-decisions that are impossible for consumers to put into words (verbalize). Measuring the consumer’s brain activity on a millisecond by millisecond basis using electroencephalography (EEG) and locating brain activity with milimeter accuracy using fMRI allows us to understand the decision processes, emotions, memory circuits and attention mechanisms when exposed to marketing materials.
